22 years ago I started teaching a young girl the piano – her name was Ofri and she was 8 year old. Now in her 20s, she is one of my favourite songwriters, and I’m about to go on tour with her, with a collaboration I am so excited about.
16 Years ago, I met Chris and Holly, at The Cobargo Folk Festival. Now, after playing music with them in a myriad of projects, they are about to play strings as part of a special trio in the fore-mentioned collaboration.
7 Years ago, I attended my first Stringmania Music Camp as a tutor. There I deepend a relationship I had only had in passing at festivals with Parvyn, a wonderful songwriter, musician and dancer who will also be joining her songs and voice in these special concerts.
It was also at Stringmania that I met Catie – back then a teenager, already brilliant Cellist, who makes up the third player in the string trio.
Ofri, Parvyn and I will be singing on each other’s songs in harmonies, whilst this incredible string trio accompanies us in special arrangements the Ofri and I have been working on. You would be hard pressed to find something anywhere else in Australia that will sound like this, as these players are some of the leading musicians in contemporary string folk techniques. They groove, they improvise and are just overall absolutely fantastic musicians and humans.
It is also an absolute joy for me to be singing three part female vocal harmonies. I have missed singing with women’s voices since leaving Chaika a few years ago, and the cathartic energy that comes from it, especially as we sing on each other’s songs that we love, is truly magic.
We will be playing shows in May and August this year and I really would love to share it with you!
