I am really much overjoyed to be welcoming Jamie Doe back to Australia in May 2025 in my capacity as friend, fellow musician and tour booker. Jamie Doe (AKA The Magic Lantern) will be touring Tasmania, VIC, ACT and NSW this May. I shall be joining him for a number of shows in duo form, as part of his band and also as a support act at a few shows.
The Magic Lantern came to me in musical form when I heard the album Love of Too Much Living back in 2018. Jamie is a prolific songwriter, and I have enjoyed all of his albums, from the delicate joys and wonderings of To The Islands, to the cry your eyes out beauty of A Reckoning Bell and then the dark introspection, vulneralbilty and strength of his latest release To Everything A Season.
Last year, I was deeply thankful to join The Magic Lantern tour in the UK, with my duo Little Clouds, where we opened for Jamie’s shows as he release this fifth album into the world.
For anyone out there who thinks it all looks like a beautiful, slick, smooth ride – it isn’t. There are tumultuous times, hours of debilitating doubt and endless questions about why we strive to keep birthing music into the world and trying to share it with people. In Jamie’s words –
” This tour is unique because it nearly didn’t happen. Three months ago I was so exhausted and overwhelmed with music and the life it entails, that I cancelled everything, took everything down and completely ignored any and all messages. The process of realising that however challenging I find it, I must do this, somehow, means that I am approaching these concerts with a lightness and a joy that I haven’t felt for years.”
For anyone who needs a good cry, a moment to feel connected and resonate with deeply human experiences – I think coming to a Magic Lantern concert will likely be a good decision to make. Head over to his page to get tickets: https://the-magic-lantern.co.uk/gigs
