Recording and arranging for the Marais Project

I have been incredibly fortunate to be invited multiple times now to work with the wonderful Jenny Eriksson and her early music ensemble The Marais Project. What I love about this ensemble is it’s ability to shape shift within the realms of ‘early music’. A project which began as a Viol consort has become an ever changing, fresh and collaborative project which breathes life into early music in new ways and presents new music on a combination of period and modern instruments. The textures and sound combinations in this ensemble are always beautifully thought out and well presented.

The Marais Project has just released ‘The Garden Party’ which celebrates their 20th anniversary of the ensemble. I was asked to collaborate on several tracks, arranging some Marin Marais for Viola da Gamba and Accordion as well as two Argentinian pieces. As always it was also a pleasure to play alongside my good friend and collaborator Susie Bishop, as well as excellent musicians Tommie Andersson, Elsen Price and of course the incredible Jenny Eriksson herself. Check out a little glimpse here of me in the studio with them late last year. Thank you to James Fraser for this excellent video.
